Whatever Wednesday -- Crochet flowers tutorial

Lately I have been noticing all of the super cute flowers that everyone is making and I thought I would give it a try.  I didn't use paper or fabric or ribbon for mine.  I used yarn and a crochet hook.  What do you think?  So stinkin' cute!!!  I know, I'm amazing.  Want the tutorial?

I used cotton yarn and a size J hook for the bigger ones and a size H hook for the smaller ones.  You could use any kind of yarn and will just need to adjust your hook size accordingly.

Crochet Flower Tutorial

Row 1:  loosely chain 51.

Row 2:  Starting in 3rd chain from hook, single crochet (sc) across.  Chain 1.  Turn.

Row 3:  Skip first sc.  SC in next sc.  (Skip sc, 5 double crochet (dc) in next sc, skip sc, sc in next sc.)  Repeat from ( to) across.  In last sc, finish off, but leave a small tail.
This extra little bump on one side will become the center of the flower.
Take your felt and cut a 2 in. circle.

Arrange your flower by spiraling it loosly around itslef.

Once you get it to look like you want it to, carefully set it down.  Spread glue on your felt and put your flower on top.  I just used tacky glue.

Quickly make your final adjustmets and press it down into the glue.  After it is dry, trim off any extra felt and you are done!

You can attach it to a pin, or an alligator clip or stick it on a notecard or scrapbook page.  Have fun with making different sizes and colors.  Here are some different ones that I made.  I think these little beauties will be making a debut in my etsy store in the near future.

I would love for you to use my idea, but please give me (and my blog) credit for it.

I'm linking this up to the following sites.  Now leave me some comment love and then go check out what everyone else is up to!!

  3. They are so sweet! I love the ones you attached to that little sweater. I wish I had the patience to crochet. I've tried, but I like doing projects I can "wing." I'm not a pattern/direction kinda girl. That gets me in trouble... :)

  4. These are very cute! I am such a beginner, and I really got off to a bad start, but I am slowly learning to crochet, and I think I could make these, since I know how to make the stitches in these directions. A month ago I found a book on how to make all sorts of crocheted flowers and I need to get up the nerve to try one this week.

  5. Thanks for posting this! I've been making my crocheted flowers by the "ring method," you know, crochet around and round a tiny chained ring? This looks so much easier, I have to try it!

  10. Knit Ourl Girl--no I didn't tack it all together, but you could if you want to. I just arranged it how I wanted it to be and then glued it down. I haven't had any problems with it staying together.
